Latina Rebel

After emerging from the shower
She looks in the mirror and states:
“I still have lipstick on.”
And the memories of last night flood in
The dancing, the joy, the laughter.
And for the first time in a while
The sense of belonging – finally.

Regardless of knowing them for only a few days,
These are her people.
They get her; they understand.

She looks back in the mirror and can’t help but smirk
As she repeats:
“I still have lipstick on.”
The deep red reminds her
She’s not alone.
She found her community –
No longer is she alone.
