Looking for a writers retreat that gives you time to devote to your writing as well as time to devote to self care? The HerStry Writers Retreat does just that. We believe in taking care of the body, as well as the soul of the writer. That’s what makes our retreat so unique. It’s the perfect combination of writing and workshopping as well as relaxation and self care. And it all happens in the cozy north woods of Wisconsin.

Fall is one of the best times to visit Wisconsin. The oppressive humidity of summer is gone but the aching cold of winter has yet to set in. By mid October the leaves are on fire, blazing red and golden. It’s the perfect time to settle in to the farm house life to write and relax.

The HerStry Writers Retreat offers women writers the unique opportunity to take time for themselves and their writing. We offer amply time for writing, particularly in the mornings when we know most writers are at their most creative. In the afternoons we offer structured workshops lead by HerStry staff where writers get the chance to hear feedback on their work from their peers. We also offer daily yoga and meditation, sessions with our in house masseuse, home cooked dinners filled with wine and laughter, hiking trails and time to simple rest from your busy life.

What to Bring

  • Casual layers. Wisco in the fall can be 70 degrees or 30 degrees and snowing. So layer up!

  • Toiletries. The retreat is held in an 1800s farm house, not a hotel. While they do offer towels and basic toiletries, we suggest bringing your own. There is laundry available if needed.

  • Walking shoes or hiking boots. The rural setting offers plenty of opportunities to explore nature when you tire of writing or just need a little inspiration.

  • Headphones or ear plugs. Though the house is large and we will have a designated quiet writing space it is a good idea to have some extra noise canceling supplies.

  • Writing supplies. Laptop, notebook, sticky notes—whatever you need to get creative.

  • Power chord for your laptop, extension chord if you think you might need it.

  • Water bottle

*There is no elevator on site but there is a first flood bedroom available for anyone who might be challenged by stairs.

*Transportation to and from the retreat is not included.
