Genessee

Today,
I threw the ring you gave me
into the River.
I considered
throwing myself in,
too,
to end the pain
of my poor judgment.
Your lies,
broken promises,
and betrayal,
I decided,
instead,
are all that need
to drown with it.
I can only miss
what you never were.
