For the Age of Uncertainty

In an increasingly fragmented world, traditional forms of creative non-fiction feel worn and even outdated, but the lyric essay stands out as a way to express increasing uncertainty. Defined by unexpected forms, poetic language and recursive structures, the lyric essay gives space for complicated emotions and unanswered question. In an eight-week generative workshop structure, writers will be introduced to the form, learn relevant craft elements and experiment with different forms of the lyric essay.

About Jade

Jade Sham (she/her) is a writer and educator originally from Plano, TX, now residing in Brooklyn, NY. She has assistant taught at the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop alongside teachers such as Crystal AC Salas and Kirsten Ogden. She writes creative non-fiction, fiction and poetry, and her work has been supported by the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop and published in Trampoline, Wig-Wag, Pithead Chapel and under the gum tree.
