Writing the Lyric Essay: A Form for the Age of Uncertainty
Writing the Lyric Essay: A Form for the Age of Uncertainty
FOR THE AGE OF UNCERTAINTY
January 6 - February 25, 2026
6:00 - 7:00 PM CT
In an increasingly fragmented world, traditional forms of creative non-fiction feel worn and even outdated, but the lyric essay stands out as a way to express increasing uncertainty. Defined by unexpected forms, poetic language and recursive structures, the lyric essay gives space for complicated emotions and unanswered question. In an eight-week generative workshop structure, writers will be introduced to the form, learn relevant craft elements and experiment with different forms of the lyric essay.
